Significant infrastructure changes to the Port of Churchill will take place over the coming months.Omnitrax, the company which owns and operates the facility and the rail line connecting it to the south, has announced it wants to ship a million tonnes of various bulk product through the port in 2008.  Managing Director Mike Ogborn says on the export side things are pretty much ready to go except for upgrading the cleaners in the elevator and some rail stabilization work.  As for the possibility of container shipping through Churchill, Ogborn thinks we'll see it sooner rather than later.  Via the Churchill Gateway Development Corporation, a feasibility study is being conducted which is looking at container shipments outbound, and whether that means a stuffing facility in Churchill or somewhere else on the prairies.  In October Omnitrax, plus the provincial and federal governments announced a $68 million partnership to improve the port's facilities.
