A driver from Marchand has been charged following a five-vehicle collision Wednesday on Highway 52.

The crash happened east of Steinbach near Borland Road just after 5pm.

Steinbach RCMP say a Manitoba Hydro truck was stopped to make a left hand turn with three vehicles stopped behind it.

Another vehicle failed to stop and that caused a chain reaction, police say.

There were no injuries.

A 39-year-old man from Marchand was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for driving while disqualified. Police have released additional information on Thursday afternoon indicating that the man was also charged with driving carelessly.

La Broquerie Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says his crews blocked the highway while the scene was being cleaned up.

He says it is too dangerous to leave the highway open while emergency crews are working in that area.
