Carol Wheeler is a great example of someone who is walking the journey through a breast cancer diagnosis and she is doing it -- right now!

We are so thankful that Carol took the time to join us on AM1250 Radio to share her story this morning. Carol started paying more attention to her body this past winter when they were down in Texas on vacation. She noticed a few little changes and could see that there was something different about her "ladies". One wasn't looking like the other. One of her nipples was an "innie" and the other was an "outie"... not normal for her. She remembered reading Audrey Goertzen's story on steinbachonline.com a year ago, about early detection and realizing that it was her year for a mammogram she decided to make sure she got it checked.

She got in for her appointment as soon as she could (June 5th) and a couple of weeks later got the news that she indeed had breast cancer. She met with the surgeon on June 27th and they decided to remove the lump, which was very small. Surgery took place on July 26th. On that day, they did a lot of testing, needle insertions, radiation, more mammograms and on the 15th of August they discovered that the lymph nodes they had removed during the surgery also had cancer. So, nothing went by the book. She is now fighting the cancer, is in treatment as we speak and our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

Thank you SO much for sharing your story and helping us build awareness during this Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
