Support continues to build to see a soybean processing facility brought to western Manitoba.

Ray Redfern chairs the Westman Opportunities Leadership Group, the organization spearheading the initiative. He says they're currently busy reaching out to other organizations looking for support, noting they've received backing from local and regional government entities.

Redfern says a number of groups are on board including Brandon University, KAP, Manitoba Pork, and Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers.

"This is a marathon, this isn't a short race," he said. "As to us getting to the process of being able to identify the infrastructure needed, to be able to identify the communities that might be able raise their hand and show that they've got infrastructure either in place or able to be developed, or to do the other attraction process to the various companies that we hope would show interest. That will be a long process."

Redfern says the project, if it goes ahead, would have benefits for all of Manitoba.
