Residents of Winnipeg will have a chance this weekend to find out more about where their food comes from.

The annual Ag in the City event is taking place Friday and Saturday at the Forks Market in downtown Winnipeg.

Agriculture in the Classroom Manitoba Executive Director Sue Clayton explains what the event is all about.

"It's aimed at the general public that have an interest in wanting to know more about how their food is produced, where their food comes from," she said. "Most of the commodity groups are represented there. There's eggs, turkey, fruit, canola, beef, pork, dairy, pulses. So all these different commodity groups will have a booth there."

Clayton notes that they always strive to talk about food safety and animal welfare whenever they host an event like this.

Some of the activities planned include a Made-in-Manitoba breakfast for one lucky school on Friday, as well as the University of Manitoba Food Fight, and KAP's meet-a-farmer session.

The event is sponsored by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
