Baker Community Farms out of MacGregor has won the Manitoba Corn Growers Association's Annual Corn Competition.

The award was presented Wednesday night at the Crop Connect Conference in Winnipeg.

Baker won the competition with a result of 274.7 bushels per acre.

Mack Waldner explains how they did it.

“Well it's all weather related, you try new things, you try and tweak whatever you can do,” he said. “It's about a five year project to see what your land will respond to and you work with agronomists and the seed reps to see the best genetics and tweak out those extra bushels.”

Waldner notes that Baker also won the competition last year, with a score of 243 bushels per acre, down about 30 from what they did this year.

Second place went to John And Dane Bergen of Roland with a score of 236.5 bu/ac, while Suderman Bros. of Winkler took third with 236.1 bu/ac.
