Like many others, Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler liked what he heard out of the meeting last week between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US President Donald Trump.

While there was concerns going into the meeting over NAFTA, those fears subsided somewhat when Trump revealed that most of his concerns where with Mexico.

Eichler said it's important to work together with the new US administration.

"We all will be stronger as a result of trade. We are a trading country, and Manitoba in particular is a trading province, so we want to keep those lines of communication open. We never take anything for granted at all, because that's the worst thing we can do for any partnership that we have is take it for granted."

He added that while our trading relationship with the US is important, it's also critical to look at other markets such as the European Union.
