An 8-year-old boy from Landmark was airlifted by STARS after an incident in that community Monday morning.

St. Pierre RCMP were dispatched to the scene at 8:40 AM. Police says the young boy was crossing First Street West on his bicycle when he was suddenly struck by a van driven by a 70-year-old male from Blumenort. STARS Air Ambulance was soon called to the accident and transported the cyclist to the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital in unstable condition.

Meanwhile, District Fire Chief Jason Kroeker says his crews also attended the scene. He notes that the roadway where the incident occurred was blocked to all traffic and expects it to remain closed for the majority of the day.

According to RCMP,  alcohol was not a factor in this collision.

As of 1:00 PM on Monday, Police indicate that the boy remained in critical condition.
