Less than one year after hiring Paul Wiebe as half time Fire Chief in Hanover, the municipality has also now named him Facility Manager on a half time basis.

In April of this year, Wiebe took over the role as head of Hanover Fire. Prior to that he had been Grunthal Fire Chief for 12 years. Then in September, the municipality announced it was also looking to create a Facility Manager position. Reeve Stan

(Paul Wiebe)Toews says they have now found their guy.

"(Paul Wiebe) brings with him construction/ contractor background so we think that will do him well," says Toews.

Toews notes it will be the responsibility of Wiebe to look after all buildings and infrastructure owned by the municipality. That includes arenas, community centres, public works shop and municipal office. Toews says Wiebe will stay on top of everything. That means the smaller repairs he might do himself, while the bigger stuff he would be responsible for getting it contracted out.

According to Toews, spending money on this hiring could actually save the municipality money in the long run.

"It could save us a lot of money because you can catch a lot of this stuff before you have to spend big dollars to fix something," he says.
