Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living reports a female in her 70s tested positive for West Nile Virus after passing away. The woman was a resident of Southern Health and is reported to have had pre-existing health conditions. She is believed to have been exposed to West Nile Virus in mid-August in the Southern Health region.

The first human case of West Nile Virus this year was previously reported by the province of Manitoba on August 12th.

Manitobans are encouraged to continue protecting themselves against mosquitoes, especially on warmer fall days. With cooler temperatures and shorter days, mosquitoes are most active in the late afternoon and early evening and will continue to be a risk until the weather becomes cooler or until the first hard frost.
