An additional 400 volunteers are needed for the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games, which starts in two weeks.

Volunteer Coordinator Cheryl Peters says, all together, they will need 1000 volunteers to help in various capacities throughout the nine venues and two villages.

She adds volunteering is a great experience.

"The volunteers get to participate in this Olympic-style event. I mean, it's a huge, huge event for our city and having an event that's like the Olympics right here, the buzz that's going to be around and the excitement in the air, I'm getting goosebumps as I'm thinking of it."

A volunteer pep rally was held Thursday night where just over 200 of the registered volunteers attended.
