The Mayor of the RM of Ritchot says council is pleased with progress on the new dike at St. Adolphe. Jackie Hunt says the work is in the range of 50 to 60 per cent complete. She explains a lot of the earth moving is finished but they'll now have to wait until spring to accommodate things like utility pipelines.

"We have some oil pipeline crossings that we have to attend to and we have some crossings at the southwest and northern part of the community still to do but, from what I understand, we're right on track."

Hunt says they will also install the flood valves next year. She explains the $6.9 million project pushes the dyke further east.

"We're pushing it east to the coulee, the St. Adolphe coulee, so as close to there as we can get without encroaching on any environmental issues. And, it'll go south just to Leblanc Road and then there will be just a little bit that crosses in the southwest corner and a little bit that crosses in the north part, but not to the same scope as what's going towards the coulee, just a little bit there to help us with closures during flood events."

When completed, St. Adolphe will have double its current land mass. She adds the plan is for landholders to begin selling residential lots in the expanded area next fall.

"The hope is that the developers, whoever has the lots in there, can start pulling permits by probably September or October of next year, with the first house being completed probably by spring of 2017."

Hunt says right now it looks like they'll meet those deadlines.
