The Reeve of La Broquerie says water levels continue to drop in the municipality.

Lewis Weiss says the situation is improving and crews have already been able to repair some roads that were breached from spring runoff. He says not everything has been fixed yet, noting they will have to wait until water levels drop a little more.

According to Weiss, Zhoda remains one of the hardest hit areas. He says some parts there are completely under water. There is a provincial drain that runs there and Weiss says it flowed over, meaning some residents couldn't even get to their homes. At least one family is waiting it out in a local motel.

Weiss says drains in the municipality simply couldn't keep up with the quick melt. But he says they opted not to intentionally open up any roads in order to help their situation.

"We felt Hanover would be in even worse shape then if we did that," says Weiss. "The only thing that breached were the ones that did on their own."

Environment Canada is forecasting rain and snow for Monday. Weiss says as long as precipitation amounts aren't significant, the situation shouldn't get any worse.

Over in the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn, Reeve Jim Swidersky says there have been a few more complications since last week, but nothing too serious. He notes there was some ice jamming on the Roseau River near Stuartburn and Gardenton which had no ill effect. The Rat River has now reached its crest and water levels on the Rat are declining. Swidersky adds water on the Roseau River is within its banks.

Swidersky says roads in the municipality are terribly soft and with frost boils popping up they are now in very rough shape. He adds some driveways are so bad, residents are being forced to leave their vehicles on the road.

"There's even folks driving their kids a little further than they have to for a school drop off but it's all worked out," notes Swidersky. "Everything's working well."

He's hopeful that if there is enough damage to roads in other municipalities, that some government funding might be made available.
