The provincial Farm Production Advisor in Steinbach expects a lot of seeding will be done here in the southeast this week. Earl Bargen says, with nothing but sunshine in the forecast, farmers should be able to work without interruption.

"I know some guys that I rub shoulders with, they've got the manpower to go 24 hours a day. I think, with a forecast like we have, a lot of acres are going to go in this week."

Bargen adds the seed bed is in good shape.

"We had a decent snow melt and did have some rains within the last couple of weeks. We don't have an abundance (of moisture) but I believe the guys will be able to get the seed into moisture fairly easily. And, with the soil warming up and having a nice moist seed bed, I think it's going to be excellent conditions for germination."

Meanwhile, Bargen says he checked out a winter wheat field Monday and it appeared to be in very good shape with plants in the tillering stage.
