Overland flooding has left two to three feet of road erosion in its wake.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says there are a few road sections that are completely washed out and due to the extent of flooding and road damage, the municipality has declared a state of emergency as of 10 Wednesday morning.

There's a lot of barricades up everywhere. Down Wells Road, I haven't gone to look myself, but the road is completely gone in some sections. Many, many roads are soft, even in the town pavement that isn't very old is completely cracked apart and broken."

Weiss says there is one driveway, in particular, leading to a hog farm and notes they are watching the water level closely because of the thousands of animals in danger. Weiss adds there is no mandatory evacuation at this point, but those who feel they cannot return to their home due to overland flooding are able to contact the municipality for temporary lodging.

"We have to wait; we cannot really repair [the roads] during the bad time," says Weiss adding they are trying to do as much as they can with the current conditions. "The biggest thing is to save roads ahead of time, those that have to be traveled."

Weiss notes there are a few residents living in low lying areas and while they are not surprised by water accumulation they say this is the worst they have ever seen it. He adds there is the possibility of crop damage and says, even though we didn't get a lot of snow this winter, the flooding may be due to a quick melt and large rainfall on Tuesday.
