Construction is complete and water is flowing at the brand new splash pad in Niverville's Hespeler Park.

Provencher MP Ted Falk, Morris MLA Shannon Martin, and members of Niverville town council attended a ribbon cutting ceremony and community barbecue on Tuesday evening to officially open up the park.

Chantel Gadient is the Community Services Recreational Director for the Town of Niverville. She says a splash pad is perfect for the community of Niverville because it is one of the youngest communities in the province and country. She notes they designed the splash pad for all ages.

“We wanted to make two different play zones. We wanted to make sure we have a smaller side with little features for the little ones, zero to three so they don't get trampled by the older kids, and then we wanted to make a family zone with bigger features, bigger water spraying and water cannons for the older kids.”

Gadient says they are very excited for the splash pad to finally be open, adding they have also built a canteen attached to the splash pad that can service the entire park.

“We figured, why not add it in one building that could be connected with the splash pad. It is in between the soccer and baseball pitches, we can have health foods throughout the summer for all our programming. We just want to be sure that we are serving our community, and we are making it a fun place.”

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says the project really started five years ago when town council decided to start a recreation infrastructure reserve fund for hard, tangible assets.

“For the last four and a half years we have been saving this money, we've seen other communities in our area that the previous provincial government had given money for and if we could have had that we could have had this project completed earlier than today, but we stayed committed to it.”

Dyck thanks the community for their input and for encouraging the town to build the splash pad in Hespeler Park. He notes council is very excited for this splash pad to be complete, noting this shows councils commitment to see recreational projects through to completion.
