The City of Steinbach has released more details about the proposed Performing Arts Centre. It says, according to Stantec consulting, the facility is estimated to cost $24.3 million. It will be located along Elmdale Street just east of the curling rink. The estimated cost of the building is $17.9 million plus $6.4 million for things like site development, equipment and engineering services.

In a news release, city council says it remains committed to providing up to $7.5 million to the project as was approved in April of this year. The remaining costs are to be covered by government grants and community donors. It says the project will not proceed until all funding is in place. The city has applied for federal and provincial grants and local fundraising is underway. It adds the timeline for a response to the applications is unknown but city council is hopeful that all of the government funding can be committed in 2017.
