The Hanover School Division has created a new position titled Director of Learning.

Superintendent Randy Dueck says Darren Kuropatwa was working as a curriculum consultant in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division and previously for the Ministry of Education in the provinces of Quebec and Manitoba.

"He displays very strong leadership in terms of pedagogy, in terms of learning theory and in terms of helping our teachers help our students how to learn. Darren also brings a really strong technology background. As we look ahead to how we maximize the learning opportunities in our school using technology to facilitate that, Darren brings a real strength to that and we're really excited to see how that will work in Hanover School Division in the years to come."

Dueck adds, as the Director of Learning, Kuropatwa will be the leader of the learning coaches team, previously called curriculum support teachers.

Kuropatwa notes he's looking forward to his new role.

"I love learning.  As the new Director of Learning I'm looking forward to sharing that passion with everyone in Hanover. But I think I'm most looking forward to working with all the staff and students to make HSD the most enviable learning environment in Canada."

Dueck says he feels the division will benefit from having an individual in this position because it will allow them to be more focused and deliberate in their planning and assessment of learning.
