The co-chair of the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games is blown away by the success of the event.

Trish Enns says the games were bigger than she ever imagined and the success is all due to the volunteers, committees, and planning crew.

"Our crew is amazing. Our volunteers again, I can't say that enough. There are lots of people that put in 16 or 17 hour days to pull this off and I am so proud to be part of such an amazing crew that put this together."

Enns says they had just shy of 900 individual volunteers participate in the games. She notes people stepped up and took whatever position was needed most.

"We had a lot of people coming in when they saw all of the activities going on. We put them to work and they stepped up and did what needed to get done. Lot's of volunteers who were scheduled for one or two shifts came in and said I had a great time, schedule me for more, where can I help out?"

Enns says a highlight of her week was a Hanover School Division Board member donning a pair of gloves and a hairnet and making sandwiches when the need arose. She notes there was a sense of camaraderie and electricity in the kitchen and in the athlete's villages.

Enns says for many of the athletes this was their first ever multi-sport event and hopefully it will inspire them to continue pursuing their athletic careers.

The interim CEO of Sport Manitoba Laurel Read says this was a huge undertaking and the week was amazing.

"The weather couldn't have been better, the venues are fantastic, the kids had a great time, and the food was awesome. The kids can't say enough about the week."
