Police plan to release further information at 11 a.m. Tuesday about their investigation near St. Malo. Winnipeg Police, assisted by RCMP from St. Pierre and Steinbach, converged on an area just south and east of St. Malo yesterday morning. The only official statement on the matter came from Winnipeg Police which said it was part of an ongoing investigation. There are reports that around 8:30 Monday evening, a car was towed from a property onto the road and that a body was removed and transferred into a coroner's van.

Original news article from 2:00 p.m. Monday:

There is a police presence in the community of St. Malo this afternoon.

Winnipeg Police are being assisted by RCMP, including members from the Steinbach detachment. They are involved in an ongoing investigation. Armed officers have been spotted in the area, along with what appears to be the SWAT team, half a mile east of Gosselin Road on Lambert Street.

No further information is available.

There had been rumours the St. Malo School was in lockdown, but Pauline Lafond-Bouchard with Red River Valley School Division says that is not the case.

"I have been in contact with the RCMP and the school is safe," says the Superintendent. "There was no need for any lockdown and I am told that everything is under control and contained. I have been assured that everything is safe."

Several country roads have been closed by police and as a result a few bus runs will be impacted. But Lafond-Bouchard says any parent needing to pick up their child will be notified.
