The first annual La Broquerie Clean Up is taking place on Saturday.

Coordinator Janelle Nadeau-Wilson says she noticed there was garbage near their house and after cleaning only half a mile they already had more than three garbage bags full.  Nadeau-Wilson explains she thought if the community rallied together a large group of people they would be able to clean up the rural area.  She adds it will be similar to the Steinbach Pick-Up and Walk but will focus more on the rural areas.

"I'm actually looking at the La Broquerie Municipality map here and we've got a large area spanning from the edge of Steinbach to the edge of Marchand.  So highway miles are a top priority.  We will have maps with one mile identified on them, stacked from top priority to lower priority.  As people come in they'll get handed the mile at the top of the stack.  So the more people that come, the more areas get covered."

Nadeau-Wilson adds registration is between 9am and 11am on the second floor of the La Broquerie Arena on Saturday and there will also be a lunch provided for volunteers afterwards.

She urges motorists to be careful while driving along Highway 52 and Provincial Road 210 during Saturday morning as there will be volunteers out.
