The last six months of building permit activity in the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie is looking positive.

Between January and June, there were 21 single family home permits distributed compared to 13 at the same time last year and a total of 53 permits in 2016 compared to 49 in 2015. In 2014 there was a record 33 permits distributed and 32 in 2013.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says it's hard to know why there's an increase this year, and why the sharp decrease last year, and notes, "a few more developments have gotten a little further along [this year], so there are a few more choices. Last year, I know we had a big scare with the slowing of the development because of the lagoon, but I think the province has realized that we are going forward with it, and I think the people have the information now. So I think the scare is over."

In the last six months there has also been a building permit value increase from $5.162 million to $5.831 million. Weiss adds the increase in value may be due to the construction of the new La Broquerie Lumber Rona building on Highway 52.
