At its annual general meeting Wednesday, the St. Labre 200 Board handed out two cheques for local charitable organizations totaling $9,000. In each of the last 8 years, St. Labre 200 has given their profits to local charities and like their attendance, the amount given grows each year.

Vice President Joel Grenier says they had a successful year even though it was the muddiest year yet. "We had rain throughout the event so that made it a lot muddier than usual, but it also made it a lot safer. As far as fundraising, this year was the highest."

La Broquerie Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says the $4,500 he received from St. Labre 200 will cover one mission by STARS air ambulance.

"Every mission STARS does in the Southeast costs between $4,500 and $5,000. I chose to involve St. Labre 200 in my fundraising campaign because STARS is made for the rural areas, and St. Labre 200 is rural and involves motorsports which STARS responds to fairly frequently in the Southeast."

Grenier says along with the Go Kart races, there were many activities for people of all ages with bouncy houses, barrel train rides, face painting, and more kids activities. He says STARS came to the event with their large touring bus giving demonstrations, and Lil' Steps Miniatures and Wellness Farm set up a petting zoo.

"This year it was very family friendly. The kids had a great time and we had a lot of positive feedback from the families that came out."

He says for next year, they hope to have bleachers built for spectators. "There's definitely room for more people to come out, and with the bleachers, we'll have a lot more room."
