A 12-year-old speed swimmer from Marchand has qualified for the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games during her first year in the sport.

Morgan Jordanov says it was her mom that encouraged her to try speed swimming. “I didn't like it at first, it was really hard, but I've gotten faster and now I really like it.”

Jordanov says she was excited when she found out she qualified for the summer games, and is looking forward to the chance of winning a medal. “I'm also looking forward to having fun with my team creating memories and meeting new people.”

She says she enjoys going to swim meets and competitions because her coaches and everyone she meets is really nice. “The one stroke I don't like for speed swimming is the butterfly because it is super hard. I like all of the other strokes and I will get to like the butterfly eventually.”

Jordanov says she also plays soccer and when she was invited to try out for the summer games she had a swim qualifier at the same time. Because soccer and swimming are in the same phase and have overlapping schedules during the games, she had to choose between the two sports.
