The Hanover Fire Department ran a Firefighter level 2 class that began this past January. 8 firefighters from Hanover and 1 firefighter from Steinbach took the training that took place at Hanover fire stations.

All of them passed their practical evaluations in Brandon this past weekend and are now our latest level 2 firefighters. They had all passed their written tests earlier last month allowing them to move on to the practical evaluation.

The level 2 course covers more advanced firefighting skills moving more into leadership role on the fire ground including taking command of a scene, transferring command, reporting as well as advanced firefighting skills in fire attack and protecting evidence.

Level 2 is optional for Hanover firefighters and builds on many skills and blocks taken in the Firefighter level 1, which is mandatory for all fire department recruits, to become firefighters. A Vehicle Extrication course was also held in late January which is a prerequisite for level 2.

Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says it was great job by all of the instructors and congratulates firefighters who chose to advance their training and take their skills to a higher level.
