The Local Urban District committee of Mitchell has finalized plans for a pair of projects along Centre Street.

Bernie Stahn is the Mitchell Councillor for the Rural Municipality of Hanover. He says this has been a tough spring on both Centre Street North and Centre Street South.

Stahn says Centre Street North is in rough shape from Highway 52 until about Pinehurst Lane. The plan is to spend approximately $160,000 and rebuild that portion this summer.

Stahn notes this project will replace two other projects that had been planned for 2016. One of those was a paving project along the Highway 52 Service Road on the west side of the community. The other project would have seen Centre Street North paved from Stahn Field ball park to beyond the soccer field parking lot entrance.

"We had set that money aside already," explains Stahn. "So unfortunately we're going to have to delay two other projects but the traffic on Centre Street North by the Co-op and convenience store is very high so we want to address that problem."

Stahn says the other two projects will be delayed to 2017.

The other project happening this year along Centre Street takes place on the south side of Highway 52. Stahn explains the first third of a mile is badly broken up following the tough spring. The plan is to remove 550 meters of existing asphalt that has broken up due to weak subgrade during the spring thaw. A-base will be put in its place to allow for maintenance.

"Right now it's very unsafe the way the road is," says Stahn.

The project is expected to cost $6,225. It will be paid for in part by the LUD and in part by the Ward 2 account.
