The Chief Executive Officer for Southern Health-Santé Sud says they hope to go to tender shortly on the re-design for the front entrance at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach.

Kathy McPhail says an open house was held in September where several concepts were presented to the public for feedback. This all happened as the result of criticism that surfaced as soon as the front entrance opened in 2014. The complaints were over how steep the steps were.

McPhail says their architects held an open house in September. With the help of input from the public they have come up with a drawing that is considered most favourable. McPhail says it will include a large vestibule with an elevator. She is hoping it has a front and back entry and exit and says there will be a walkway connecting the Emergency Room and vestibule.

"There should be some construction occurring and I'll ask for the forgiveness of the public because once again we will be rerouting people to get into the facility once that construction begins," notes McPhail. "But at the end of the day that will be a great addition to the front entrance of Bethesda Regional."

Meanwhile, she says other highlights of 2016 should include completion of the new 100 bed Tabor Home being built in Morden and the new hospital going up in Notre Dame.
