The Director of Health Services at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach says they hope to finalize a re-design plan for the front entrance within the next month. Jan Gunness says a lot has happened since several options were presented to the public in September.

"We're still working through the details. We presented concepts at the beginning of September and then took the feedback from those concepts to refine the design processes. We've got a vision, a more clear vision, in mind and all of that public feedback was considered. We continue to have design meetings with the architect and with Manitoba Health and that process is continuing. Probably closer into December, we'll finalize the design."

Gunness adds they hope to go to tender around Christmas time with construction to start in spring but notes those timelines are tentative.

The new front entrance of the hospital opened last year but complaints soon followed that the steps were too steep, especially for people who have challenges with their mobility. Upgrades have already been completed to the wheelchair ramp.
