The athletes' village is starting to take shape at Steinbach Regional Secondary School and Clearspring Middle School for the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games.

Director of Sport Jason Peters says the cots are easy to set up, but with 1,000 of them, there are volunteers helping with the time-consuming process.

"You'll see truckloads of cots being set up and [they're] not just dumped into one large area, they're actually stationed off into different rooms with the right bed count."

Peters adds each classroom will be assigned to a team and their coach and have the appropriate number of cots for the athletes.

"If you can imagine, they're fold out camping cots. We've had a chance to lie down on them and they're really comfortable. Each cot kind of unrolls and has a coat tree so the kids can hang their gear."

He says the showers should also be arriving this week. Peters says this will be a unique experience for the athletes adding the first phase of athletes arrive on Sunday afternoon.

Peters notes there will be food services at SRSS as well as entertainment at both schools including movies, video games, and ping-pong tables for the athletes in their downtime.
