The captain of the Eastman girls' softball team for the Power Smart Manitoba Summer games next week in Steinbach says it will be a new experience in more ways than one. 16 year-old Caitlyn Culleton of Vassar attends school in Warroad, Minnesota and plays girls' softball there. But she has never before played softball in Manitoba.

"I actually play baseball in Canada so it was the first time I had tried out for a softball team in Manitoba. So, that was something that was very new to me. I play on all the baseball teams around here. I play on the Carillon AAA baseball team with the boys. So it's cool for me to get to play with new girls and experience something different."

Culleton plays catcher and says she comes by her skills honestly.

"I've been playing since I was very young, like four or five. My grandpa is in the Hall of Fame because he's a Cote and they had a family team of nine brothers who played together. And my mom has played really high level ball too."

She believes Team Eastman will do well at the summer games.

"We've been improving a lot this year. We went to Wisconsin this past weekend and went 3 and 2 and did very good so I think we'll have a good chance of doing well as long as we play our best and work our hardest."
