The chair of the sailing event at the Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games is very pleased with the outcome of the event. The races happened at West Hawk Lake and wrapped up Wednesday. Event chair Paul Krestanowich says it went really well.

Paul Krestanowich"We've been lucky with weather, middle size wind knots, so that's been giving us good fast races. In fact, we had to do multiple laps of the course to make sure the races were long enough. The weather has been fantastic besides a little bit of rain for half an hour so we were spoiled by the weather this week."

Krestanowich says events like this are huge in helping to draw more young people into the sport, noting the participants were coming off the water with huge smiles on their faces.

"Everytime we hold an event like a provincial championship or Manitoba Games, the next year I have an extra couple of dozen kids wanting to try the sport. For the growth of the sport, these events are huge."

Krestanowich says there was plenty of spectator interest and notes, on Monday, they had between 600 and 900 people watching the races.

Gold medal winners in sailing include Molly Ingemney from Interlake, Anthony Clark from Westman, Kendra Penner of Team Central, John Nichols from Eastman and Bryce Kristjansson of Team Winnipeg Gold.
