“My trailer was struck by lightning", RV fire drastically changes family's summer plans
A thunderstorm that rolled through the Marchand area this past Saturday had a drastic impact on one family's summer plans. Lisa Hettrick says she got some startling news Sunday morning. “My trailer was struck by lightning. It was in the middle of a few other trailers that were parked on private property and what ended up happening was my trailer went up, and it burnt my father's trailer down and unfortunately one other person's trailer.” It was actually opening weekend for the campground and Hettrick says she thought she was getting word that they could move in early. She notes the folks at the RV Park were the ones to deliver the bad news and were almost as devastated as she was. “They were actually the first ones there when it got hit by lightning. As soon as it was hit, Twisted Root, the campground, went to the private property, saw the fire, phoned everyone that they needed to. The fire department, and Natural Resources got there quickly. They managed to save two of the RVs, but mine was incinerated instantly, as soon as they got there it was already gone.” Fortunately, Hettrick says her camper was insured and so was her fathers. “We've already made our claim with MPI and the adjusters. I have an appointment on the 23rd and on the 29th, so those will be the days that I find out what is happening. From there, we can make a decision of what we're able to do and if we're going to be able to save this summer. Otherwise, I guess we're tenting it.” Laughing, Hettrick says not camping is not an option. “I have teenage boys, they need to get their energy out, they need to be out in the wilderness!” Hettrick can’t thank the folks at Twisted Root RV Park enough, adding they have been fabulous throughout this process.
