A woman driving a motorized scooter was hit by a car at a Steinbach crosswalk on Thursday.

According to Steinbach RCMP, a 94-year-old female was crossing at Main Street and Kroeker Avenue at around 10:50 AM when she was struck by a westbound vehicle.

Police say this impact caused the scooter to tip over resulting in minor head and arm injuries to the woman on board. Though she appeared okay, the woman was quickly transported to hospital by ambulance for further medical inspection.

Meanwhile, RCMP note that the crosswalk lights had not been activated at the time of the incident. They add that the 54-year-old female motorist had her view obstructed by the vehicle ahead of her. While she did apply her breaks, police say she was unable to avoid the collision.

RCMP thank the public for their assistance during this incident and remind local residents to activate the crosswalk lights every time they are crossing the street.
