The McDonald's restaurant in Steinbach has achieved a unique distinction. It sells more vanilla ice cream cones than any other McDonald's in Canada. Franchise owner Barry Bruce staff says he is not surprised because his staff make hundreds and hundreds of cones every day.
"On an average we sell around 427 cones a day. In fact, in 2015, we sold over 83,000 ice cream cones. That's a lot of ice cream."
In fact, Bruce says they sell so much ice cream they had to bring in a second machine. He credits a couple of factors for the big sales numbers.
"I think one of the reasons our ice cream is so popular is because it has less calories than our major competitor, our fat content is lower than our major competitor and it's a really good product."
He adds another reason for the popularity of the cones is the price of 99cents.
