The Winnipeg Jets playoff aspirations took a massive hit on Monday night.
Daniel Alfredsson scored twice including the winning goal with 2:33 remaining in the third period as the Ottawa Senators beat Winnipeg 6-4 at MTS Centre. Alfredsson's second of the night came just 24 seconds after Jets forward Evander Kane had tied the game at 4-4.
Antti Miettinen scored twice for the Jets while Kyle Wellwood had the other Winnipeg goal. Chris Neil, Kaspars Daugavins, Kyle Turris and Milan Michalek also scored for the Senators.
Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson stopped 48 shots. Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec, who made his 12th straight start, stopped 30 shots.
Winnipeg (35-33-8) is six points back of the Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals who share the eighth and final playoff spot in the National Hockey League's Eastern Conference. The deficit will increase to eight points as the Sabres and Capitals meet tonight in Washington. The Jets next game is Wednesday against the New York Rangers at MTS Centre.
