Westbound Highway 1 was shut down or partially shut down for approximately 9 hours Monday due to a trailer fire.

Reynolds Fire Chief Don McDougall says his crews were called out just before 1 P.M.

“There was a highway tractor that was hauling a mixed load down the highway and from what the driver says, the tires caught fire and he disconnected his truck so that it was just the trailer that was left to burn and by the time we got there, it was fully involved.”

McDougall says they fully shut down the westbound lanes of Highway 1 while they fought the blaze. Then he notes “as soon as it was safe for us to open it up, which was a couple of hours, we did so and left it at one lane. The RCMP helped out with traffic as well, setting up cones with us.”

The RM of Ste. Anne Fire Department was called for mutual aid, and McDougall says they provided extra manpower and water.

In total, McDougall says his crews were out for approximately 9 hours and the burned-out trailer was cleaned up by 10 P.M.

No investigation was necessary.
