A busy weekend for the Providence Pilot's sports teams yielded mixed emotions.

The Pilots men's soccer team took two wins over Assiniboine Community College Cougars and the Brandon University Bobcats scoring five goals throughout the weekend. Midfielders Benji Bediako and Hunter Robertson did the goal scoring in Saturday’s 2-0 win over the Cougars and Herby Magny, Jonathan Fulford, and Braeden Owen lifted the Pilots over the Bobcats in a 3-2 win on Sunday.

"It was a good weekend overall. We didn’t look like Manchester City but we got the two wins," quipped head coach Joey Passi. "The important thing is we showed a lot of fight and we got the job done. It’s going to be a tight finish as we look to get ourselves into a playoff spot because the competition is high."

The Pilot's men's team is now tied for third place in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference standings.

It was a more difficult weekend for the Pilots women's soccer team with a 7-1 loss at home to Brandon University on Sunday. Julika Kehler was the lone goal-scorer for Providence in a team that has sustained many injuries.

"We were unable to put our best foot forward against BU, but I don’t think the score shows what type of team we are," analyzed head coach Tory Walker. "The women showed some real class and character, and I am proud of them for that."

The Pilots had 3-0 victories against both Assiniboine Community College and Red River College on Friday, then to took the Blazers by the same score Saturday morning. They ended with weekend with a 3-1 win over the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen on Saturday afternoon.

Right Side LaRae Driedger led the Pilots with 29 kills, nine aces, and nine digs throughout the weekend, Left Side Hannah Sabatier added 24 kills and 16 digs, and Setter Sam Bridle took 117 assists, 21 digs, and seven aces for the reigning MCAC champions.

"We had strong performances from everyone, and that is encouraging going forward," remarked head coach Kyle Guenther. "We served really tough and passed better than we have in previous weeks, which gave us a great chance in each match we played."

The Pilots men's volleyball team travelled to Alberta and played a pair of matches against Concordia University of Edmonton and Keyano College. The Pilots claimed one 3-2 victory over Concordia and one 3-2 loss, then lost all but one set in both matches to Keyano.

"Overall, this was a good weekend of pre-season for us," said head coach Scott Masterson. "The guys are starting to figure out their roles and we are coming together as a team. As long as we can consistently find the level of play we saw glimpses of this weekend, I think we’ll be a tough team to beat this year."
