Steinbach City Council awarded tender to Accurate HD for $491,000 for the 2024 Loewen Blvd. force main installation project.

Only one bid was received, coming in at $570,000, which exceeded the city’s budget.

To lower the price, administration negotiated a reduced scope of work.

Although the price was reduced, it will still slightly exceed the budgeted funding considering the estimated project consulting fees that are required for the project.

Councillor Michael Zwaagstra says it’s important this project proceeds.

“While the initial tender did come in over budget, I appreciate the effort of administration to reduce the scope slightly to bring it closer to our budget, and it's obviously important work that has to go ahead.”

Councillor Jac Siemens agrees.

“This is a critical project to move forward, as once this is complete, then next year we will rip apart Loewen Blvd. and #12, but in order to do that, we have to do this first.”

The City of Steinbach also awarded tender for their proposed 2024 capital works program, which includes infrastructure projects on Hanover St., Penner St., and Brandt St. in Steinbach.

Four bids were received, with the lowest bid being Maple Leaf construction for the amount of $1.32 million.

Councillor Damian Penner says it's nice to see that all four bids came in underneath the City’s estimated budget.

“So hopefully that's a sign of construction stabilizing and maybe getting a little more affordable in the future.”

Due to the cost savings from the capital works tender, there will be extra funding available to be reallocated to the Loewen Blvd. force main installation project.
