A Grunthal resident went into insulin shock, after accidently over-medicating, while driving home last week and his family is thankful for the help of two unknown samaritans.

Elaine Friesen says her 84-year old father-in-law, Cornie, was driving to his home in Grunthal from Steinbach and cannot recall the drive after turning onto Provincial Road 205 from Highway 12. She notes, from Provincial Road 205, he turned south onto Provincial Road 216, an area he lived in a few years ago, and drove erratically for approximately four miles. She notes that's when the two men came to the rescue.

"The two young gentlemen managed to, somehow, I believe, pull up beside him and get him to pull over. I'm not quite sure how they did that, but they did," explains Friesen. "When they had him pulled over they called the ambulance and the RCMP and stayed with him until they all arrived."

Friesen says it's special to the family for these two men to have helped him, waited with him until they knew he was alright and took that amount of time out of their day to care for someone else. She notes, in his condition, it was probably best he didn't drive into town.

"We, as a family, are looking at this as a blessing because, had he driven into town, we don't know who's on the sidewalks, who's where, who's what. We're just so, so thankful that he wasn't hurt, or anyone else for that matter. It could have been disastrous."

She adds Cornie is doing well and being monitored at home. Friesen says, as a family, do not know who the two men are, but would like to thank them adding they may phone her at 204-371-8318.

"If someday we could meet you, to thank you in person, we would love to. If not, please know we're very, very thankful for what you've done."
