The Manitoba Government has allocated over 54 million dollars to school infrastructure projects throughout the province, among the recipients of these funds is Steinbach's Stonybrook Middle School.

Secretary-Treasurer for the Hanover School Division, Kevin Heide says the recent funding will go towards three much-needed upgrades at Stonybrook: a roof replacement covering roughly 10,500 ft, a boiler replacement, and an elevator addition. He adds that each of these projects have different timelines.

“The roof is still in the design stage so it will probably be done over the winter months, the boiler replacement is already fairly close to completion and we are hoping to fire it up by the time we need heat, and the elevator is a longer project, but maybe sometime next summer they’ll complete it," suggests Heide.

Though the total cost of the is roof still unknown, Heide informs that the boiler replacement is valued at $375,000, and the elevator is estimated around $700,000.

“Anytime the province recognizes our needs and is willing to participate or contribute to our school, we are grateful,” comments Heide.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Seine River School Division Mike Borgfjord says they have also been financed by the Manitoba Government to build an addition worth $10.4 million onto their La Salle School, and $1.5 million for a roof and exterior wall replacement at École Île Des Chênes.
