Regular visitors to A.D. Penner Park will no doubt notice the zip line missing from the area.

According to Russ Dyck, Director of Parks & Rec for Steinbach, city crews removed the long-time play structure earlier last week to be rebuilt.

“It is going to be coming back because we know it's a popular play structure for the kids that visit the park. But it was fairly old and needed some replacement parts. Some of the poles were leaning over and we needed to stabilize it a bit more," explains Dyck. He goes on to say that the department decided to just rebuild the zip line from scratch."We'll have a nicer, newer zip line that might also meet some more safety codes than from when it was built many years ago.”

Dyck reports that they will be using recycled hydro poles as the main timbers to hold up the zip line. They also plan to re-purpose some of the old materials, which explains why some of the old timber was piled in the vicinity.

Asked about the status of the project, Dyck replied that they are "still waiting for a couple of components in terms of the actual glide that goes on the cable."

"It'll probably be a couple of weeks yet before we get all those parts in, but people will see the posts and so forth, timbers and the safety surface, probably starting to get into place next week and the week after,” he added.

From Dyck's estimation, the zip line that they just dismantled had been there for decades. “I don't have the exact year, but I'm guessing it would have been before my time with the city, it probably was installed in the 80s I believe.”
