A search warrant in Steinbach has resulted in the seizure of drugs, a firearm and a large amount of cash.

On May 1st, as part of an ongoing drug investigation, Steinbach RCMP General Investigative Section and East District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in Steinbach.

Officers seized methamphetamine, crack cocaine, psilocybin, six kilograms of illicit cannabis, 45,000 illicit cigarettes, a conducted energy weapon, a firearm and over $140,000 in cash.

"The big thing that sticks out here is about $140,000 in cash," says RCMP Corporal Julie Courchaine.

A 50-year-old female from Steinbach was arrested at the scene. She is facing a number of charges under the Criminal Code, Cannabis Act and the Tax Administration and Miscellaneous Taxes Act. She was released from custody with an upcoming court date.

"She was arrested at the scene without any incident," adds Courchaine. "She is facing a slew of charges under all these different acts."

The investigation is ongoing and RCMP anticipate further arrests. Courchaine says investigators believe this is part of a larger operation.

"We don't normally see that amount of cash seized," notes Courchaine. "So that's definitely something we're following up on to kind of see where that can lead us, to other operations or other people that sort of thing. Kind of a big project that really paid off here."

Courchaine says the people of Steinbach should know that RCMP are taking tips it receives from the public and turning them into search warrants. In this particular case, that search warrant resulted in the seizure of drugs, weapons and cash.
